The days of intense contouring, heavy lashes and bold lips are behind us - with the trends now moving towards natural basics, with a few fun elements to keep things interesting.

If you didn’t get a chance to try out this year’s beauty trends, don’t worry – you’ve still got time to try them out! Here are three make-up ideas to keep you inspired and help feed your imagination.

Holographic colours and textures

Highlighters have become a staple in everyone's make-up bag - from liquid to cream, powder to barely-there balms - but, this year we added a futuristic touch to our look with holographic colours and textures. Where highlighters give a that warm, lit-from-within glow to the face, the holographic makeup trend gives a cool, silver sheen that can be used on nails, lips and eyes. Keen to push the boundaries even more? Look for multidimensional or "unicorn" highlighters that combine a variety of pastel shades.

Eyeshadows with loose pigments

Eyeshadows with loose pigments are lighter and easier to blend than compact eyeshadow, and are also available in a variety of matte and glitter variations that can quickly update your look without spending a fortune. Bonus - they're perfect if you need to be out the door in a hurry - no need to shade or fiddle with brushes, as they apply perfectly straight from your fingertip.

Cut crease contouring (in colour!)

This technique gives incredible definition to your eyes. Just be warned – it can take a little bit of practice to get the hang of it. This look works very well with a pop of colour like turquoise and yellow, so let loose and experiment!
