It’s time to face facts – skincare is a must for both men and women! Not sure where to start? These five essentials will put you on the right track.

Be sun sensible

“Going outdoors without sunscreen is the number one cause of ageing,” says Bianca. “If there’s one product you should not be missing out on, it’s SPF – choose a lotion-based sunscreen if your skin is oilier and cream-based if your skin is on the dry side,” she says.

Stay hydrated

“Moisturiser is also a daily must,” says Bianca. “Look for products that focus on your particular skin concerns; oily skin is generally more prone to breakouts while dry skin may age sooner than other skin types. If ageing is a concern, look for moisturisers that contain retinol, hyaluronic acid and alpha hydroxy acids.”

It’s great to exfoliate

Guys who shave tend to have healthy-looking cheeks and jawlines because of the regular exfoliation. With that in mind, “exfoliating two to three times a week with a product specific to your skin type is an excellent commitment to great skin,” says Bianca. Be aware that acne-prone skin may need a little less exfoliation in order to prevent breakouts.

Say goodbye to blemishes

Shaving can affect skin texture and pigmentation, but CC creams are a great solution. “If a CC cream is a bridge to far, an SPF with a subtle tint is excellent to even out skin texture and tone,” says Bianca.

Night game

Layering products may not be on every guy’s agenda, but if you feel the need to choose between a serum or a night cream, Bianca recommends choosing a serum. “You want a targeted product that works on eliminating free radicals and really feeding the skin. Retinol is great for accelerating cellular turnover; hyaluronic acid plumps up dehydrated skin and Vitamin C is an excellent skin brightener,” she says.
