Easy DIY nail ideas to inspire your Halloween look
Want your nails to make a statement this Halloween? Opt for these shades and styles for this year's trendiest talons.
When it comes to beauty looks, your manicure can really pull it all together. It is also a great way to add the finishing touches on your Halloween costume or celebrate more subtly by letting your talons do all the talking. And while you might think that your nail colour palette and design choices for a spooky shindig are either limiting or complicated, you'd be wrong. Here are three ways to create a Halloween manicure that is as chic as it is sinister.
Blood red
A classic red manicure is universally flattering and is one of the most popular nail colours - giving a sophisticated finish to any look. While the regular hue would be an obvious pick for Halloween because it resembles blood, a darker red, such an a merlot or oxblood shade, makes an even bolder statement - toeing the line between red and black.
Black
Nothing says Halloween quite like a set of black nails, which can be worn either shiny or matte depending on your look. Protect your nails from being stained and looking scary well into November by applying a base coat before trying your hand at this dark, dramatic shade. As chips are also more noticeable with a darker shade, make sure you also apply a long-wearing top coat to help them last.
DIY spiderwebs
Ready to try some DIY Halloween-inspired nail art? All you need is a needle or toothpick and some black and orange nail lacquer. Use orange as your base colour and allow it to dry thoroughly. Then, dip a toothpick or needle into black nail polish and carefully draw lines to create the shape of a web, either on one accent nail or, if you’re up for it, all of them, and seal with a top coat once dry to lock it in and keep it looking fresher for longer.
Grey
Basic black is great. It is a versatile colour that can be worn with any look, and you won't run the risk of having it clash with your clothing! But, another neutral that is frequently overlooked, despite being a perfect fit for this eerie holiday, is grey - which has the ability to go from ghostly to glam with just one makeup and outfit change.
Deep purple
If you are looking for a Halloween hue that is the perfect mix of scary and sultry, a deep, rich purple manicure is a great choice. It is close enough to black to be Halloween appropriate, but has enough colour to make it interesting and elevate your look, both on Halloween night and beyond.
Top tip
Rather than leaving your nails glossy, add a matte topcoat to transform your finish from glam to grunge with just a few swipes of your brush.
