How to add Pantone’s Colour of the Year to your makeup bag
Pretty corals are everywhere thanks to the shade being named Pantone’s Colour of the Year. Find out how to inject the gorgeous hue into your makeup collection.
Remember when millennial pink was the shade du jour? You have last year’s Pantone Colour of the Year, Rose Quartz to thank for that. Now, 2019’s colour to crave is Living Coral. An “animating and life-affirming hue”, you can expect to see it colouring everything from clothes and home decor to electronics and appliances.
Still, you don’t have to splurge on a fancy coral fridge to get in on the action. Makeup artist Tamryn Jefferies is going to show you how to add it to your makeup bag.
Eyeshadow
Tamryn is quick to warn against pink or red eyeshadow, saying it’s very hard to pull off. “Most of the time it’ll make you look like you’ve been crying or are suffering from an eye infection.” Coral, however, is a winner. “It makes all eye colours pop and looks great if you pair it with other warm shades that are darker, like brown and eggplant,” she says.
Lips
Coral lipstick flatters every skin tone so it’s a failsafe choice for lipstick or gloss, but Tamryn has a word of warning. “If you’re wearing coral on your eyes, don’t wear coral on your lips and vice versa,” she says. “The idea is to not look too matchy-matchy.”
Blush
“Coral blush looks great on cheeks,” says Tamryn. If you’ve got cool-toned skin, she suggests you pick a coral that has a bit more pink in it. Those with warmer skin tones will look great with a hue that’s more golden peach.
Nails
The easiest way to wear any trendy colour is still on your nails. “A lighter coral shade is great for summer but there’s nothing like a deep, almost red coral to add a touch of glamour to any winter look,” says Tamryn.
