How to get coveted “yoga skin”

07 November 2019 | Leigh van den Berg

A quick search will tell you that “yoga skin” is one of the hottest beauty trends of the year – but what is it? Hint: it doesn’t involve doing any actual yoga.

If you’re following Instagram beauty trends, chances are you’ll know about yoga skin. If not, we’re here to bring you up to speed. A UK-based makeup artist, Sarah Hill recently created a “healthy, glowing, hydrated, radiant, sheer and natural” makeup look, christened it “yoga skin” and the crowd went wild.

Sarah detailed how to achieve the look in her post and many of the luxe products she used are pricy, but local makeup artist Tamryn Jefferies believes you can recreate it in fewer steps for less.

Even things out

To begin, apply your moisturiser as usual then use a water-based primer. “This will help create a smooth, poreless-looking finish, but will be more hydrating than a silicone-based primer,” Tamryn says.

Get mixing

Next, you’re to create a magic mix using two pumps of a sheer-to-medium coverage water-based foundation, a drop of facial oil and a drop of liquid highlighter.

Cover up

Use your hands to massage your “glow mix” into your skin. If you want more coverage, you can wait a few minutes and then apply another layer. Once that’s had a minute or so to set, use a liquid concealer to hide dark circle and blemishes. “You want to hide only your flaws, not your newly glowing complexion,” says Tamryn.

Add colour

“If you’d like a little more colour, you can use your fingertips to tap a cream blush on the apples of your cheeks or a cream bronzer on your temples and cheekbones,” Tamryn says.

Set it in place

To finish up, Tamryn says you can set the look with a light dusting of translucent loose powder using a large, fluffy brush. “And that’s it!” she says. “Yoga skin without a drop of sweat!”
