The best mix-and-match nail colour combinations

14 November 2019 | The Clicks Beauty Team

Whether you want to wear one colour on your toes and another on your fingers, or rock a two-toned mani, the key to nailing the look is selecting shades that look hot together.

Nail art has certainly come a long way. Not long ago, wearing black nail polish was considered “pushing the envelope”. Now, it’s perfectly acceptable to stencil your nails with skulls, file them to stiletto points, or texturise them with furry finishes. Interesting times. In that light, wearing just two colours on your nails may seem a little tame, but we think it’s still an appealing way to add interest without trying too hard. Here are our favourite polish pairings.

Turquoise and coral

This pretty colour duo says “summertime” just as smoothly as DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince did in 1997. It might restrict your wardrobe colour choices a bit, but if you stick to neutrals your nails will really pop. Alternatively, tone it down with pastel shades of these colours.

Black and gold

This statement pairing is not destined for an uneventful day at the office. Much like a valuable piece of jewellery, it’s best saved for special occasions where glitz and glam are appreciated. If you’re feeling particularly creative, adding white touches to the black and gold pattern will take it to the next level.

Fuchsia and pink

Shades in the same colour family complement each other well, as fuschia and pink demonstrate. Soft shades of these colours work well for everyday wear, while hot ones put the “fun” into “function”.

White and silver

White pairs well with just about everything. It looks sweet and fresh with pastels, bold and dramatic with metallics, strong and modern with black. But we favour the white-and-silver pairing for its striking but wearable effect. It’ll shine bright for a night out, and add a little sparkle to your daywear.
