Top tips and tricks to smell great all day long
Tired of your fragrance disappearing a few minutes after you apply it? Follow these tips to make it last throughout the day.
If you’ve ever invested your hard-earned cash in a proper grown-up fragrance only to find that it lasts for all of 15 minutes before you smell like your boring old self again, you’ll know what a huge bummer that can be. After all, once you’ve envisioned yourself walking into a room smelling of pepper, vetiver and labdanum, it’s not exactly the same when you have to wander in there smelling of plain old human.
We feel your pain, which is why we caught up with Tammy Frazer, founder of Frazer Parfum in Cape Town, to find out what tips she has for getting fragrances to last longer. According to Tammy, you need to get the basics right if you want your perfume to perform to the best of its ability.
Moisture is a must
“How long a fragrance lasts on your skin depends a lot on how much oil content is in your skin already. You need to moisturise, that's the most important step. If you put a fragrance on and your skin is really dry, there are no surface oils for the smell to cling to, which means it won’t last for very long,” explains Tammy.
Storage matters
Store your perfume away from heat and humidity. In other words, don't leave it in the bathroom or on a windowsill – rather keep it in a closed cupboard in your room.
Wash first
Apply your perfume after taking a shower or bath. The moisture on your skin will help to lock in the scent.
Application tricks
Want to really turn heads? Lightly apply a spritz of fragrance to your clothing or hair (depending on the occasion) to amp up the scent effects.
