Orange butter cake: Ingredients: 250 g butter. 300 ml castor sugar (250g). 4 extra large eggs. 20 ml grated orange rind. 5 ml vanilla essence. 500 ml self-raising flour (260g) 2 ml salt about 150 ml milk. Instructions: 1. Preheat oven at 180 degrees C. 2. Cream butter and sugar together well. Add eggs, one at a time, and beat well after each addition until light and fluffy. Add orange rind and essence. 3. Sift flour and salt together and add, together with milk, to egg mixture. 4. Spoon into a greased and lined 20 cm x 24 cm rectangular tin. 5. Bake for 40-45 minutes. 6. Leave in tin for a while, then turn onto a wire rack to cool. Ice with orange icing. Cut into squares. Direction for use: Insert wire into the centre of the cake: if it comes out clean it is ready. Care instructions: Wash in warm, soapy water before first use. Dishwasher safe.
This cake tester not only does what it should do, by effectively testing whether a cake is ready or not, but looks cute too! The only downside is it's a bit more expensive than regular cake testers, but totally worth it for the adorable silicone handle.
