Juicing is an excellent (and easy) way to incorporate more fruits and vegetables into your diet. Remember though, that homemade juices are best served fresh. Try and drink yours within twenty minutes of making it to really appreciate the flavour.
Once you’ve mastered the technique, don’t be afraid to experiment with different flavours – try adding your favourite herbs and fruits to a tried-and-tested recipe.
Refreshing breakfast: Cherry smoothie
Serves 4
You will need:
200g cherries (pips removed)
1 banana, sliced
1-2 Tbsp lemon juice
2 Tbsp vanilla sugar
200g yoghurt
250ml milk
Place the cherries, banana, lemon juice, sugar, yoghurt and milk in a mixer and purée until frothy. Vary the quantity of milk depending on the desired consistency. Pour into glasses and serve.
Something sweet: Mango and clementine smoothie
Serves 4
You will need:
2 mangoes, peeled and stoned
4 clementines, segmented
200g pineapple flesh, chopped
150g celeriac, peeled and chopped
1 lime, juiced
1-2 tsp brown sugar
ice cubes to serve
Put the mangoes, clementines, pineapple, celeriac and lime juice in a mixer and blend to a fine purée. Add a little cold water if needed and sweeten to taste with brown sugar. Pour the smoothie into glasses, add 2-3 ice cubes to each glass and serve.
Top tip: If you can’t find celeriac, you can use carrots instead.
