Usage instructions:
Directions for use: Safety precautions and directions for use are included in the owner's manual. Before use: Remove all packaging materials and check carefully, making sure that the sponge cake maker is in good condition. There should be no cracks on the unit and no damage to the cord or plug. Do not discard of any packaging until all accessories have been removed. Confirm that the voltage indicated on the appliance corresponds with the voltage in your home. Remove any adhesive labels or stickers before use. Carefully wipe the exterior and the baking plates with a warm, soft, damp cloth and remove any dust that may have accumulated. Wipe dry with a clean towel. Do not operate the appliance with the upper lid opened. Operation: 1. Prepare the batter for the sponge cakes. 2. Raise the lid of the sponge cake maker. 3. Apply butter, margarine or vegetable oil evenly to the non-stick cooking surfaces. This can be applied with a paper towel, brush or non-stick oil sprays. The oil will help protect the non-stick quality of the cooking surfaces. This should be done periodically to maintain the non-stick surfaces' functionality. 4. Fill each of the six pastry wells up to 2/3 full with batter mixture. 5. Close the lid and plug in. The red light will come on. Steam may be released from the appliance during cooking. For your safety, avoid contact with steam, as it is very hot and can cause burns. The Green light will come on and off intermittently. 6. Allow sponge cakes to cook for about 6 minutes. 7. Open the unit to check if the sponge cakes are ready. 8. Once cakes are cooked as desired, remove the plug from the power outlet and use a wooden utensil or heat-proof spatula to remove the sponge cakes. 9. If cakes are not completely cooked, close the unit and continue cooking for a further few minutes or until sponge cakes are a golden brown colour. 10. Check by inserting a toothpick into the sponge cakes. If the toothpick comes out clean, the cakes are cooked. 11. To cook additional sponge cakes, repeat the above steps. Reapply cooking oil, butter or margarine to the cooking plates. 12. When the appliance is not in use, unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet. 13. Allow the unit to cool before cleaning. Cleaning and care: Do not commence cleaning until the device has cooled down completely. Disconnect the power plug from the mains supply. Wipe the non-stick coated plates with a cloth soaked in hot water and washing detergent. Never use hard, abrasive powders, wire wool or hard abrasive scourers. Wipe dry with a clean cloth or an absorbent kitchen towel. Caution: do not immerse the appliance in water or any liquid. Classic sponge cake recipe: 1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour. 1 tsp baking powder. 1/2 tsp salt. 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick/8 tbsp). 1 cup granulated sugar. 2 large eggs, plus 1 egg yolk. 2 tsp vanilla extract. 3/4 cup milk. For best results, use all ingredients at room temperature. Directions: 1. In a large bowl, mix creamed butter and sugar with a hand mixer and beat until light and fluffy. 2. Add eggs, egg yolk and vanilla extract to the butter/sugar mixture and beat until incorporated. 3. Scrape the sides of the bowl and continue mixing. 4. Add flour, baking powder, salt and milk. Mix on low speed until well incorporated. 5. Plug in unit, wipe to apply a thin layer of vegetable oil and fill each cavity until 2/3 full. 6. Bake between 4-7 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in centre comes out clean. 7. Remove sponge cakes and allow to cool. 8. Once the sponge cakes are cooled, decorate with frosting of choice and enjoy! Yields 8 cakes. Chocolate sponge cake recipe: 1 cup all-purpose flour. 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder. 1 tsp baking powder. 1 tsp baking soda. 1/2 tsp salt. 10 tbsp unsalted butter (softened). 1 1/4 cup granulated sugar. 3 eggs. 2 tsp. vanilla extract. 3/4 cup milk. For best results, use all ingredients at room temperature. Directions: 1. In a large bowl, mix creamed butter and sugar with a hand mixer and beat until light and fluffy. 2. Add eggs and vanilla extract to butter/sugar mixture and beat until incorporated. 3. Scrape the sides of the bowl and continue mixing. 4. Add flour, baking powder, baking soda, cocoa powder and milk. Mix on low speed until well incorporated. 5. Plug in unit, wipe to apply a thin layer of vegetable oil and fill each cavity until 2/3 full. 6. For best results, use all ingredients at room temperature. Directions: 1. In a large bowl, mix creamed butter and sugar with a hand mixer and beat until light and fluffy. 2. Add eggs and vanilla extract to butter/sugar mixture and beat until incorporated. 3. Scrape the sides of the bowl and continue mixing. 4. Add flour, baking powder, baking soda, cocoa powder, milk and food colouring. Mix on low speed until well incorporated. 5. Plug in unit, wipe to apply a thin layer of vegetable oil and fill each cavity until 2/3 full. 6. Bake between 4-7 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in centre comes out clean. 7. Remove sponge cakes and allow to cool. 8. Once the sponge cakes are cooled, decorate with frosting of choice and enjoy! Yields 8 cakes. Filling recipes: Vanilla cream. 3 tbsp margarine. 3 tbsp unsalted butter (softened). 1 cup powdered sugar. 1 tsp vanilla extract. 1 cup light corn syrup. For best results, use all ingredients at room temperature. Directions: 1. With an electric mixer, beat together margarine and butter until blended. 2. Turn the mixer down to its lowest setting and gradually add powdered sugar until incorporated. 3. Once incorporated, turn mixer on high speed and beat until light and fluffy (approximately 5 minutes). 4. Gradually beat in vanilla extract and corn syrup until the filling is the consistency of mayonnaise. This will take approximately 2 minutes. 5. Fill pastry bag. Inject about one tablespoon in three locations on the underside of each cooled Sponge Cake and enjoy! 6. Tip: You may also use jams or preserves (puree first for best consistency), as well as mousse, pudding, or pie fillings to fill your sponge cakes. Yield: Fills 8 cakes. For household use only.
