Letter from our Managing Executive

Cape Town, 21 July 2021

Dear valued customer

I want to share the progress we have made in reopening stores and restoring essential services to affected areas in KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and the rest of the country.

It is heartwarming to see how people have united to take a stand against the looting and destruction and volunteered to clean up affected malls and stores. They truly are an inspiration to us all, and a beacon of hope that our country will recover. I am especially heartened by the messages of solidarity we have received from customers, and the steps we have taken as a nation to start rebuilding during this difficult time.

Our operations and support teams have been working tirelessly to clean and re-stock looted and damaged stores. We are re-establishing our supply chain of life-saving medicines and essential goods as we know you are counting on us for your healthcare needs and medication – which is the reason we have brought in supplies and emergency medicines from other regions.

We have to date reopened 78 stores and 23 vaccination sites in KZN and 214 stores and 42 vaccination sites in the rest of the country. Our convenience model and expansive store network has enabled us to continue to trade in areas unaffected by protest action. Unfortunately, 47 stores across KZN and Gauteng remain temporally closed due to the extent of their looting and damages; nevertheless, we are doing everything in our power to reopen these at a pace where practically possible.

We have also redirected existing chronic medication scripts from 35 of the worst affected stores to the closest Clicks buddy dispensary. Visit this link https://clicks.co.za/store-updates for the affected stores and their buddy dispensaries. Please contact us if you need emergency chronic medication so we can make alternative arrangements for you to collect this at your closest store or through Clicks Direct Medicines. Please fill in the form on the link above or call our Customer Service Centre on 0860 254 257.

We continue to deliver online orders to homes, however please be cognizant that delivery delays may still be experienced in some areas.

Medicines should only be bought online from a trusted source or a registered medical practitioner, pharmacy or hospital. Please report any attempted sale of stolen medicines to the SAPS immediately. Stolen or improperly dispensed medicines can be extremely dangerous if not stored correctly or if contaminated and may cause dangerous side-effects if not used under medical supervision.

We remain committed to the national imperative of getting as many people vaccinated in the shortest possible time. To this end, we are working closely with provincial departments of health to resume vaccination services in affected areas. To date, we have administered 162 604 vaccinations at 283 vaccination sites nationwide and are on track to open 17 more sites across the country in the next few weeks (with our plan of 602 vaccination sites still on track).

Registration for vaccination is now open to anyone over the age of 35 years. If you’re over 35 years of age, please register on the government’s Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS). Once all scheduled patients have received their vaccination, unscheduled walk-in patients will be allowed, but the most vulnerable (over the age of 50) will receive priority. Walk-ins are managed based on stock availability and capacity.

None of the plans and action steps outlined above would be possible without the selfless dedication of our staff, our customers and the communities we serve: thank you.

The safety of our customers and staff remains our top priority. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Stay safe, stay resilient and stay strong.
