Usage instructions:
Directions for use: Take 1 tablet daily. Take with water after food. Contains iodine. Do not use when pregnant or breast-feeding. Contraindications: Vital Kelp is contraindicated in: Patients with a hypersensitivity (allergy) to iodine or any of the inactive ingredients of Vital Kelp (see "side effects"). Patients with a hypersensitivity to fish, crustaceans or sulphur . Warnings and special precautions: Vital Kelp should be avoided in the following circumstances: Patients suffering from or with a history of thyroid dysfunction since iodine, as in Vital Kelp, may exacerbate the symptoms of thyroid disorders such as goitre and hypothyroidism. Patients suffering from autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD) since it may lead to an increased sensitivity to the side effects of iodine. Patients suffering from dermatitis herpetiformis as iodine, as in Vital Kelp, may exacerbate the symptoms thereof. In combination with anti-thyroid medicines, lithium and amiodarone (see "Interactions"). Vital Kelp should not be used by children. Vital Kelp should not affect the ability of individuals to drive or operate machinery. Nutritional supplements do not replace a balanced diet. Interactions: Anti-thyroid medicines: Concomitant use of anti-thyroid medicines with iodine, as in Vital Kelp, may result in additive hypothyroid activity, and may cause hypothyroidism (see "Warnings and special precautions"). Amiodarone: Amiodarone contains 37,3% iodine and can increase iodine levels. Concomitant use with iodine, as in Vital Kelp, may affect thyroid function (see "Warnings and special precautions"). Lithium: Lithium can inhibit thyroid function. Concomitant use with iodine, as in Vital Kelp, may have additive hypothyroid effects (see "warnings and special precautions"). Pregnancy and lactation: Safety and efficacy in pregnancy and lactation has not been established. Dosage and directions for use: Adults: Take 1 tablet daily. Take with water after food. Side effects: Immune system disorders: Frequent: Hypersensitivity reactions including urticaria, angioedema, cutaneous haemorrhage or purpuras fever, arthralgia, lymphadenopathy eosinophilia. Other side effects linked to iodine, a Vital Kelp, are unlikely at the sugges dosage of 1 tablet per day. Known symptoms of overdosage and particulars of its treatment: Chronic exposure to high doses of (>2000pg/day) may lead to hypothyroidism, goitre and "iodism". Symptoms of "iodism" resemble cold flu-like symptoms as well as salivary gland swelling, increased salivation, gastrointestinal irritation (nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea), headache, acneform dermatitis, metallic taste, gingivitis, burning and painful mouth, inflammation of the throat, conjunctiv and oedema of eye lids. Pulmonary oedema, dyspnoea, and bronchitis may develop. Other reporte effects include depression, insomnia impotence. The symptoms of acute overdosage are mainly due to the corrosive effects of iodine on the gastrointestinal tract. A metallic taste, headache, vomiting, abdominal pain and bloody diarrhoea may occur. Systemic toxicity may lead to shock, tachycardia, hypotension, fever, metabolic acidosis and renal impairment. In the case of overdosage, administer large quantities of milk or starch mucilage. Activated charcoal or a 1% sodium thiosulfate solution can also be used. Further symptomatic and supportive treatment is suggested. Active ingredient: Kelp (Ascophyllum Nodosum) Providing: Iodine. The inactive Ingredients are Colloidal Anhydrous Silica, Copovidone, Magnesium Stearate, Microcrystalline Cellulose and Molasses Powder. Vital Kelp contains no Lactose or Sugar.
