Whether you have three or 30 minutes, Michelle Phala of Hair by Michelle has put together a few hair style ideas to inspire you this season, and adds, “Trying new styles is a great way to keep your look fresh, but you should always remember to have a good styling aid to help protect your hair, too”.

The ‘Fro-hawk

“This is one is a personal favourite of mine,” says Michelle. “I usually do this with second day hair and a good product to keep my hair moisturised”. To get this look, divide your hair into three fairly big sections and then tie each section with a good strong hair tie. Tease and pull all the hair from the three ponytails to make it look as if you have a ‘fro-hawk. Simple!

The three minute up-do

Dampen your hair with water before you start and then section your hair into three sections in the front, middle and back. Use your favourite product to slick down your edges and then tie the bottom and middle sections into their own ponytails.
For the top section, Michelle likes creating a small bump or twists, and adds, “Dividing it and creating a cool twisted bun looks really nice, too”.

With the middle section, divide the ponytail into two and twist them with your fingers, before bringing them forward and pinning in place to create a bow effect. Do the same with the bottom ponytail. Then pin them together to make the three ponytails look more seamless, before finishing with a moisturising or shine spray.

That ‘70s look

Think Farrah Fawcett, but not as high maintenance. Wash and detangle your hair and then either pin curl it with minimal heat, before stretching the curl slightly with your fingers. For a truly retro look, pin the curl partly over your forehead.

The high bun

If you have longer natural hair then this is a really easy one to do. Gather all your hair into a high ponytail and slick down those edges. Tuck your hair around your hair tie into a soft messy bun all the way around and pin down using hair pins.

The braided up-do

Depending on the length of your hair, divide your hair into several small sections, or a few large ones – depending you the end look you want to achieve.  Plait the bottom sections upwards towards the top of your head. Leave one section at the top of your head and detangle it so your curls pop, but have the rest of your plaits or twists meet at the top of your head and pin them down.
