5 Tools for the perfect pedi at home
Does lockdown mean you've had to skip your monthly salon appointment? Now's the perfect time to learn how to give yourself a salon-worthy pedicure at home with just five tools.
While nothing can quite beat a pampering visit to a salon, lockdown means that we have to take matters into our own hands when it comes to self-care and looking after ourselves. Here's how to give yourself a salon-style pedicure in just five steps.
Dry skin, be gone!
The first step to a pro-style pedi is getting rid of any dry skin on your feet. This means whipping out a foot file and giving your heels a good buff. The ideal time to do this is when your feet are completely dry. If you buff away at wet feet, you run the risk of removing healthy skin as well as what’s dead and needs to go.
Conquer those calluses
If you’ve got very dry feet along with calluses, it might be best to buy a set of foot peel booties. Simply slip on each plastic bootie and leave them to soak in the exfoliating acids for at least 90 minutes. When you’re done, rinse off your feet. Just wait – they’ll begin to shed within a week!
Time to clip
There’s nothing stopping you from using a nail file on your toenails, but clippers will help you cut them straight in no time. Ideally, you want a large one that spans the width of your widest toenail so that you can cut it straight across with just a single clip.
Bye cuticles, bye!
Want to get rid of your cuticles? This is where a soak in the foot spa comes in. After a few minutes in warm water they’ll have softened up enough for you to gently scrape them away and push back what remains with a cuticle stick. If you don’t have time to sit around with your feet in a tub, do this bit after you get out of the bath or use a few slicks of cuticle remover.
Buff up nicely
The final step in the quest for perfect-looking toes is to give them a polish with a four-sided buffing block. Use the grittier sides to remove ridges and smooth out your nail beds. The soft, pleathery-feeling side will help you buff your way to a healthy-looking shine.
