20 December 2022 | By Monwabisi Mhlophe

Gents, we know that grooming helps you feel confident and ready to face the world. We also know that navigating your way through the men’s aisle can be overwhelming, at best. Here are seven items every man should have in their look-good, feel-good kit.

Exfoliating face wash

This is the foundation of your skincare routine – the bedrock of your grooming activities, the basis upon which your face will glow. Getting the right exfoliating face wash for your skin type will make a difference to your appearance as it works to remove the dust and dirt that accumulates on your face throughout the day. It also helps manage oiliness and removes dead skin cells.

Beard essentials

For the bearded gang, a beard kit is probably the easier route. Make sure it contains beard wash, oil, balm, a beard comb and scissors (or a trimmer) to help you tackle dandruff, any itchiness and potential acne. Tend to your beard often and trim it tenderly and see how it glistens and grows in return.

Nose hair trimmer

Medically, nasal hair serves a purpose, but many people still prefer to give it a chop – and that’s ok (until your Dr says otherwise!). A nose hair trimmer is a safe way to get rid of nose hair, as is using round-tip scissors designed specifically for this purpose. Avoid going in too deep in your nose and focus on just the visible hair.

Face mask

This one might take you out of your comfort zone but trust us, your skin will love it. There are different types of face masks available out there – from charcoal, cream and clay masks to sheet, peel-off and overnight options – so try a few and see which works best for your face and your pocket.

SPF-friendly moisturiser

As necessary as face washing is, it can strip your money-maker of essential oils (that’s why choosing a quality wash is so important!). Applying a good moisturiser helps to hydrate your skin and feed it the goodies it needs to look and feel nourished. You score bonus points for using a moisturiser with an SPF element to it, otherwise simply add a separate sunscreen to your routine. All skin needs sun protection!

Fragrance

Whether it’s anti-perspirant roll-on, deo, or a classic cologne, making sure you smell good after putting in all that grooming effort seals the deal. Just don’t overdo it otherwise the intended effect will fall flat.
