How to Achieve the Soft Glam Look
A bit more than no-makeup-makeup, a lot less than all-out glam, soft glam is an easy, polished look for a special evening or day out.
What is soft glam?
Unlike a full glam look, soft glam makeup has no harsh lines, and feels lighter and a little more natural. Everything is nicely blended, mostly monochromatic and, well, soft! Think glowing skin, brushed-through brows, diffused eyeshadow, and a natural, neutral lip.
While there are many versions of soft glam, here’s how to get the classic look:
Prep skin
After your usual skincare routine, apply a pore-filling primer to hydrated and moisturised skin. This is the perfect primer to help create a diffused look.
Even out your complexion
Soft glam always starts off with a luminous base. To do this, skip full-coverage foundation and opt for formulas or skin tints featuring radiant or sheer finishes that you can build up.
Brighten your under-eye area
Next apply a lightweight, buildable concealer, one shade lighter than your skin, and blend it beneath your under eye area using your fingertips. This will work to cover dark circles and illuminate the area without it looking harsh.
Natural flush
When it comes to blush, reach for cream or liquid formulas with light-reflecting particles to give your complexion that soft glowing, diffused flush. Using your fingers, apply to the apples of your cheek blending it all the way to your temples.
Brush up brows
A harsh block brow that looks drawn on is the opposite of what this look calls. All you need for brows is a clear gel formula with a spoolie to brush hairs up and set them in place.
Create soft eyeliner
One way to ensure your makeup look is elevated while remaining soft is to create eyeliner using eyeshadow. Rather than creating winged eyeliner with a bold liquid liner, eyeshadow creates a more diffused look.
Simply prime your eyes with your concealer and dip into a matte eyeshadow colour of your choice with an angled eyeliner brush. Press the brush into your upper lash line and gently flick it outwards at your outer corners to create a wing shape and lift your eyes.
Swipe on mascara
To give you eyes definition, apply a few coats of mascara in a zig-zag motion.
Paint your pout
One of the defining characteristics of a soft glam makeup look is a natural-looking lip colour — this goes for the finish as much as it does for the colour. You could also use a light gloss which helps give your lips a plump, fuller effect.
Set it off
To finish complexion, set the skin with a veil of loose powder to help create a smooth, even canvas.
