How to choose a moisturising lipstick
Don’t let dry lips prevent you from rocking a bold lipstick ever again! These hydrating products will treat your chapped lips while still looking fab.
Even if you don’t tend to struggle with dry, flaky lips, picking a lipstick that promises to hydrate is always a good idea. Unlike the skin on the rest of your face, your lips don’t have oil glands, making them more prone to growing desperate in the moisture department.
Colour and quench
To find a lipstick that can deliver a good dose of hydration, simply look for those that claim to moisturise or plump. Better yet, look up its ingredients online and ensure it contains a nice mix of oils and waxes.
“Most lipsticks are made up of three groups of ingredients – pigment, wax and oil. The pigment is what gives it its colour, the oils add the moisture and waxes help seal it in,” says makeup artist Tarryn Fox. “Some of the most common oils used in lipsticks include mineral oil, plant oils like jojoba and fats like lanolin or cocoa butter”.
Plump it up!
Another excellent hydrating ingredient Tarryn says to look for is hyaluronic acid, something you’ll find in Revlon’s Ultra HD Gel Lipcolor. Despite its name, it’s not an exfoliating acid or even an acidic one. “Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in your body, especially your skin, where it acts as a brilliant water-binder,” says Tarryn. “It attracts moisture and holds it deep within your skin to help hydrate and plump.”
