How to choose fragrances for special occasions
Keen to expand your fragrance wardrobe? Read on for expert tips on choosing scents to match and enhance special occasions.
Do you have different fragrances for different occasions? While most of us have a signature perfume or cologne that we wear religiously every day, or perhaps two that we swop out at dusk to ring in the deeper scent nuances of the evening, there are folks out there who have a whole collection of fragrances that they wear for different occasions.
We caught up with local perfumer Tammy Frazer, founder of Frazer Parfum (a bespoke perfumery in Cape Town that produces natural and organic fragrances for the home, body and mind), to find out more about this phenomenon. It turns out that matching fragrances to occasions is totally a thing!
“Why yes, there are plenty of people who prefer to match the tones of their fragrance to the gravitas or ambience of a given occasion,” says Tammy. “After all, weddings have a completely different vibe to a first date or a business meeting, and it only makes sense to have your scent follow suit.”
Here are Tammy’s top recommendations for each of these occasions:
Florals for weddings
Not too surprisingly, florals are great for weddings. This includes fragrances like Guess Seductive Homme Blue EDT, an aromatic scent with fougère notes integrated with subtle wood to arrive at a masculine fragrance that is unique, fun and sophisticated.
Sexy woods for first dates
Fragrances with sexy wood (get your mind out of the gutter, sies!) are spot-on for first dates. David Beckham Classic Touch EDT is a great option – it has a crisp, fruity accord, a powdery floral heart and a deeply masculine base of wood and leather.
Fresh citruses for business meetings
Heading into an important business meeting? Opt for a zesty scent with lashings of citrus like Hollister Festival Vibes For Him EDP. It’s a refreshing aromatic fougère scent that combines pineapple and marine top notes, ginger and green heart notes and a warm, spicy base.
