How to decide which nail shape to choose

Before you pick your shape, Luxolo suggests keeping a few key factors in mind:

Length

- Long fingers: If you have long fingers, go for a shorter nail shape. This will balance out the proportions and avoid making your fingers appear excessively long.
- Short fingers: Opt for round, oval or almond shapes if you have short fingers. This will create the illusion of longer fingers and avoid making your hands look stubby.

Nail bed width

- Wide nail beds: Oval, almond, or squoval (a square shape nail with rounded corners) shapes can help elongate and slim down the appearance of wide nail beds.
- Narrow nail beds: Square, stiletto, or coffin nails (where very long nails are noticeably tapered) can add width and balance to narrow nail beds. 

Shape of hands

- Short, wide hands: Almond or oval shapes can help elongate the fingers and create a more balanced look. 
- Long, slim hands: Coffin or stiletto shapes can accentuate the length and slimness of the hands. 

Skin type

- Dry skin: For dry skin, round shapes are recommended. They are less prone to splitting at the edges, which can happen with dry nail beds.
- Oily hands: Square-shaped nails offer more resistance and durability, which helps to prevent breakage.

TOP TIP: Consider how much you use your hands daily. If you’re someone who uses their hands frequently, go for a wide shape. This will add stability and strength to your nails, helping them withstand pressure.
