Listen up, guys! Here’s how to conceal pimples like a pro
Pimples are frustrating, but don’t let them get you down! This guide will have you hiding zits like a pro in no time.
Nobody likes pimples but everybody gets them – from that A-list action hero you admire to your favourite Instagram influencers. You’re not necessarily going to see theirs though, because the movie star’s rolling with a makeup artist and, in the case of the latter, there’s an app to ensure complexion perfection. Still, if you’re trying to live your best life and happen to endure a monster spot, all is not lost.
Celebrity makeup artist, Ryno Mulder shares how to cover up a pimple in a way that’s so natural-looking, nobody will ever guess that you’re wearing makeup.
Prep
To start, ensure your face is clean and your hands have been washed. You don’t really want to touch or pick at a pimple too much or you’ll end up spreading the bacteria that causes them. If the spot you’re dealing with is very red, Ryno says he “neutralises” it with the tiniest touch of green concealer or primer – green sits opposite red on the colour wheel, so it helps tone down redness.
Conceal
“I never use very creamy concealers on pimples as they can make them flare up again within hours. Also, you want to keep that area looking matte,” says Ryno. Instead, he suggests a high-coverage liquid concealer that exactly matches your skin tone. “If it comes in wand packaging, don’t apply the wand directly to your pimple. You want to contain that bacteria, not spread it around,” he says. “I like to put a drop of concealer on the back of my cleanly washed hand and use a cotton bud to apply the colour around and on top of the spot.”
Blend
“I only blend around the pimple and very little, if at all, on top of it as that tends to lift the product off, making your concealing effort pointless,” says Ryno. You can use a sponge or blending brush if you’re prepared to wash it, otherwise, you can simply use your finger.
Set
To ensure your concealer stays the day, Ryno suggests you set it with a little powder. “Lightly dust translucent powder or a yellow-toned powder that matches your skin over the top of the concealer with a small, fluffy, tapered brush,” he says. “Again, if you use a brush, don’t forget to wash it and don’t touch the pimple again until you remove your makeup.”
