Dry brushing is used as a spa treatment all over the world, but it’s something anyone can do. All you need is the dry brush, which is available at a range of health and beauty stores around the country. Here are Candice-Lee’s tips for how it’s done:

Dry brushing is most effective when done just before bathing or showering.

“Work from your ankles upwards, brushing your skin gently using sweeping strokes. It’s important to brush in the same direction – upwards towards the heart. On your back you should brush from your neck down to your lower back. Be cautious when brushing sensitive areas like your chest and breasts – you don’t have to apply an excess amount of pressure for the technique to be effective,” Candice-Lee explains. 

The number one dry brushing sin

According to Candice-Lee, the one time dry brushing should never be used is when your skin is inflamed or sunburnt. Also, if you suffer from eczema or psoriasis, avoid dry brushing as it will aggravate both these conditions. 

What to look for in a good body brush

Candice-Lee’s number one tip on how to choose a dry brush, is to look for a brush with natural bristles and a long handle. She recommends The Body Shop’s Cactus Brush. Its bristles are sourced from well-managed forests, so you can scrub effectively and guilt-free.
