Bad hair days. They happen to all of us. Unruly flyaways, uneven hair growth, dry strands that can’t be tamed – it’s all part of why everyone hates them. If you can relate to experiencing one of these untimely events once in a while, then keep reading because we’re about to give you some tips on how to beat the bad hair day blues.

Prevention is the best cure

The best bad hair day fix is to avoid having one, and that starts with good hair hygiene. Not only should you wash your hair regularly, but you should also keep your haircuts as regular as possible. As professional hairstylist, Craig Moses says: “Men who keep their haircuts regular, rarely have bad hair days because the shape of their hair is being consistently maintained. We all wish that our hair could grow out and keep its shape naturally but unfortunately, that just doesn’t happen. Keep your haircuts regular so that your hair will always be pliable and mouldable with a good product between cuts. Invest in your hair – it will do a lot for your self-confidence.”

Choose your style wisely

“The first mistake some men make when having their hair styled is not asking questions and trying new things. Prepare for your appointment by googling hairstyles you like or flipping through a few of the hair magazines at the salon. Then ask your stylist what will work and most importantly, how long certain styles will keep. If you don’t have time for bimonthly cuts, then you need to choose a style that you can manage on your own. Generally, you should choose a style that is aligned with the back part of your neck and one that complements your jawline,” says Craig.

Play with product

When it comes to bad hair days, there’s nothing that a good product can’t fix. Craig recommends a water-soluble wax that won’t leave residue. “Remember to mould and style your hair in the direction of your hair growth,” says Craig. Bad hair days have a habit of popping up midday, so be prepared. Decant a small amount of product into a small tub and carry it with you in your car. Then when the moment calls for it, reach for your product, warm it in your palms and apply it generously. A good product will tide you over until your next cut.
