Top tips for statement eyes for when you're wearing a mask

Go bold on the brows

According to makeup artist and beauty therapist Martie Olivier your brows should always be your first port of call when you want to make a strong statement with your eyes.

“There will be a lot of focus on brows, even more than we've seen up to date. Microblading has been a huge trend lately and this will definitely continue in my opinion. Regular lash and brow tinting will also play a big role in the personal grooming space for folks who are a little too nervous to go the permanent makeup route,” she explains.

Love your lashes

Certain salons also offer brow- and lash-enhancing serums for sale that allow you to boost the growth of your natural brows and lashes while you are unable to go for regular treatments,” Martie advises.

Contour and colour like a pro

“Colour eye shadow is not a major focal point in the makeup world at the moment, although there are some ladies who like to experiment with a bit of colour on the eyelid. Personally, I believe contouring of the eye and brow will definitely be a major trend in the coming months. This will include highlighting under the brow and a focus on the crease contouring of the eye. Black eyeliner, especially in the shape of the alluring cat-eye, also makes quite a dramatic statement,” says Martie.

Here are a few other contouring tricks to try at home:

• Brighten up the inner corners of your eye with a dot of highlighter to make your eyes look bigger.

• Give your eyelids more dimension by using an angled brush to swoop your eye shadow up and outward for a subtle winged look.

• Add a fingertip-sized metallic eye shadow to the very centre of your eyelids to make your eyes pop when it catches the light.

• Freshen up tired eyes by adding a little Vaseline to the centre of your lid and spreading it outward for a dewy, well-rested look.
