Your teen skin problems, solved!

11 November 2019 | The Clicks Beauty Team

You’ve hit your teens and it seems like your skin is on a mission to ruin your life. Don't worry, with the right products you can get it to calm down again. Promise!

As if life isn’t complicated enough as a teenager, you’ve also got the added stress of hormonal changes that can wreak havoc on your complexion. Don't worry, you’re in good company – many other teens are in exactly the same position. Luckily, there’s quite a lot you can do to manage hormone-induced, teen skin issues. Here are a few tips to get you started.

Keep it real clean

Start a consistent morning and evening cleansing routine. Choose mild formulations that unclog pores without leaving your skin feeling tight and uncomfortable – foaming and gel cleansers do the job well. Follow with an alcohol-free toner to remove any residual dirt that might otherwise cause pimples.

Remove your make-up

At the end of the day, it’s all got to go. Leaving bits of makeup on at bedtime is an open invitation for blackheads, blocked pores and cosmetic acne to break out on your beautiful face. If you're pressed for time, give micellar water a try - most formulations remove make-up effectively, plus, there’s no need to rinse afterwards - it’s that good. Just apply a few drops to a textured cotton pad and swipe across your face, and you're done!

Moisturise

An oil-free moisturiser will keep your skin soft and supple, without feeling heavy. For daytime use, it’s important to use a product containing a built-in SPF. Protecting your face and neck from the sun now will prevent premature ageing and sagging skin later. Your future self thanks you.

Dealing with impurities

Avoid the urge to squeeze pimples; as doing so may cause surrounding bacteria to penetrate the skin, creating even bigger problems. Instead, apply an anti-spot product to the area and leave overnight. If that doesn’t work and you’re feeling desperate, cover your fingers with a tissue and press as gently as possible around the area to open the pimple. Cleanse the area afterwards to prevent infection.
