How to build a fragrance wardrobe
As integral to your uniqueness as your signature style, the scents in your fragrance collection can speak volumes. Here’s how to create a fragrance wardrobe, plus a handy storage trick to help your perfumes last longer.
Sample what you have
Grab that DKNY Be Delicious out from the back of your bathroom cupboard and give it a spritz. Does it still spark joy? If not, give it to a friend or toss it.
Not only do our tastes change over time, but so do our hormones. So, the way a scent smelled on you ten years ago may not be the same as it does now.
Experiment with notes
In 2022, uniqueness reigns supreme, so when you’re choosing a scent, indulge your playful side.
You don't have to choose a classic scent simply because it's been in the headlines for years. Instead, ask the fragrance consultant for new fragrances on the market that feature notes in the olfactive family of smells you generally enjoy.
For example, if fresh, floral notes are your thing, try Hollister Wave for Her, featuring delicate notes of hibiscus and star fruit.
Stay current
While you may choose to try something new, you can also line up your fragrance choices with something trendy.
Here are our top two to try:
1. Skin-like scents
Unsure of what musk smells like? Imagine the aroma of fresh laundry or your skin fresh out of the shower. You can nail the genre with Karl Lagerfeld Fleur de Pecher with hints of pear and peach blossom. Or Missguided Babe Dreams with violet, rose, and iris.
2. Aquatic aromas
With lockdowns and restrictions on travel, fragrances with notes reminiscent of the sea have seen an upturn in sales. Escape to the sea-side with Issey Miyake Fusion d'Issey Extreme and its' mineral notes mixed with coconut and mint or Bentley for Men Azure topped with sage, lavender, and pineapple.
Add new ways to wear perfume
Scented body lotion? Been there, done that. But have you ever tried scented hair mists? An innovative way to add perfume into your fragrance wardrobe is by slotting in a few hair perfumes.
The Body Shop's Coconut & Yuzu Hair and Body Mist is fresh and affordable, while Boity's Pink Sapphire Luxurious Hair Perfume adds gloss with argan oil and a scent trail of rich amber.
Store them well
Fragrances are an investment so make sure that you’re looking after them correctly. Store them out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources – preferably in a cool, dark place like a shelf in your wardrobe.
