From setting powder and highlighting powder to bronzing powder. the world of makeup powder has certainly expanded over the years, and now, one more has been added – banana powder. Multi-functional, universally flattering and a must for those that deal with oiliness regularly, banana powder is a product that many makeup artists swear by.

What is banana powder?

Banana powder is a micro-milled, silky-smooth loose powder that has a yellow tint to it. Super lightweight in texture, this multipurpose powder can blur away imperfections, control sebum, prolong the life of your makeup, and illuminate your skin, giving it a smoother appearance.

How does banana powder differ from translucent powder or setting powder?

While banana powder basically combines the two makeup products, the main difference is the colour. With a yellow or golden tint, these powders help leave your skin looking brighter and more even toned.

At first, the colour of banana powders may be intimidating, but it works like magic and offers a plethora of benefits. The best part? It’s universally flattering. The warm tint from banana powders helps in colour-correcting face redness and pink undertones, and neutralises blue under eye circles, leaving you with an illuminated and brighter skin tone.

How to use banana powder

This easy-to-use powder sits well on every skin tone – that is why it’s universally loved. Here’s how to use banana powder on your face:

Set the base

Prime your skin with a primer and then apply your foundation as you would normally. Next, use a concealer to cover any blemishes and under-eye circles.

Apply the banana powder

The primary use of banana powder is to set your makeup in certain areas of your face. While doing so it also gives your skin a bit of its highlight. Use a fluffy face brush and sweep the powder over your skin to set the rest of your makeup. Let it sit on your face for five minutes – then dust it off with a powder brush.

Complete your look

After you’ve applied your banana powder, you can move along with the rest of your makeup look. This means following suit with blush, highlighter, eyeshadow, etc.

If you want to try a baking technique (for extra-long wear), try this:

After applying your highlighter and base products, use a beauty sponge to pack the banana powder onto the places you want to mattify and brighten (under the eyes, the cheekbones, the chin, etc). Leave the powder for five minutes, letting it set and soak up excess oil. After the few minutes are up, use a fluffy brush to dust away the extra powder that's left.
