A basic shopping list for your newborn baby

Here are some of the basics required for baby's first few months.

For your nursery

A cot, bassinet or somewhere for your baby to sleep
Mattress
Cot sheet (preferably fitted)
A pram or pushchair
A car seat
A baby bath, or bath seat
A chest of drawers or compactum
Changing mat
4–5 receiving blankets
Toys (optional)
2 basins for topping-tailing

Clothes

4–5 Babygros
2 two-piece sets (tops-leggings)
4–6 vests or body suits (long sleeves for winter)
2 Jerseys
Waterproofs (if using toweling nappies)
Socks or booties
Mittens
Bibs
Towelling nappies or burpers
Hat

Baby’s needs

Babycare Disposable Nappies / towelling nappies (minimum 30 towelling nappies needed)
Babycare Nappy Steriliser (if you are using towelling nappies)
Nappy liners (towelling nappies)

Babycare Aqueous Cream
BabyCare Zinc and Castor Oil Cream for bums (helps prevent nappy rash)

2 Face cloths (1 for tops and the other for tails)

New mums sometimes find that the excitement of a new baby, combined with “porridge brain” means that you get home from a shopping excursion to find that you have forgotten the nappies, or worse…the baby.
