What are the 3 different sources of collagen, and what do they do? Type 1 collagen is a marine collagen, it's the most abundant form of collagen in the body. It is found in tendons, ligaments, skin, bones, teeth, hair and nails. Type 2 collagen is the primary collagen found in cartilage. Cartilage is a connective tissue that protects the ends of long bones at the joints. Chicken collagen also inherently features chondroitin sulphate and glucosamine sulphate, both famous for supporting healthy joints. Type 3 collagen is fibrillar collagen, a significant component of our skin and organs. Type 3 collagen is commonly used in supplements to support healthy skin. Bovine collagen derived from grass-fed cows is another collagen supplement option that features mainly type 3 collagen. Type 3 collagen frequently works in tandem with type 1 collagen in bone, cartilage, bone marrow, and connective tissue.
