Pharmacological action: Sennosides A and B are anthraquinone glycosides derived from senna which, upon digestion, are absorbed from the intestinal tract, metabolised and excreted into the colon where it takes effect. Indications: Clicks senna is recommended for the relief of occasional constipation. Identification: A khaki-coloured, bi-convex tablet. Presentation: Packs of 20 and 100 tablets. How to use

Usage instructions:
Dosage and directions for use: Do not take continuously for longer than a week. Adults: 2 to 4 tablets once daily. Children over the age of 6 years 1 to 2 tablets one daily. May be increased or decreased depending on the response. Start with the lowest dose and if necessary increase with half of the initial dose. In case of failure to obtain the desired effect in 3 days discontinue use and consult a healthcare practitioner. Patient information leaflet: Before you take/use Clicks senna: Do not take Clicks senna: If you are hypersensitive (allergic) to sennosides or any of the other ingredients of Clicks senna. If you have intestinal obstruction, stomach pain of unknown cause or stomach discomfort, including the feeling of queasiness or vomiting. Do not give Clicks senna: To children under 6 years of age. How to take Clicks senna: Do not share medicines prescribed for you with any other person. Always take Clicks senna exactly as your healthcare practitioner has instructed you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure. Do not take uninterrupted for more than one week, unless advised to do so by a healthcare practitioner. The usual dose is: Adults: 2 to 4 tablets once daily. Children over the age of 6 years: 1 to 2 tablets once daily. May be increased or decreased depending on the response. If relief from constipation is not obtained within 3 days, stop taking Clicks senna and consult a healthcare practitioner.

Storage instructions:
Store at or below 25 degrees C in a cool, dry place. Patient information leaflet: Storing and disposing of Clicks senna: Keep all medicines out of the reach and sight of children. Store at or below 25 degrees C. Store in the original container. Keep the container tightly closed. Protect from moisture. Do not store in a bathroom. Do not use after the expiry date stated on the bottle. Return all unused medicine to your pharmacist. Do not dispose of unused medicine in drains or sewerage systems (e.g. toilets).

Warnings:
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients. Intestinal obstruction or any undiagnosed abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting. Children under 6 years of age. Interactions: Potassium sparing diuretics or potassium supplements. Anticoagulants. Contraceptives. Digital glycosides. Fat-soluble vitamins. Stool-softener laxatives. Antacids. Cimetidine, famotidine, nizatidine and ranitidine. Warnings and special precautions: Should not be taken for more than one week, unless advised to do so by a healthcare practitioner. If you notice a change in bowel function that persists for more than 2 weeks, consult a healthcare practitioner before using a laxative. If constipation persists, rectal bleeding occurs or no relief from constipation is obtained, discontinue use and consult a healthcare practitioner. Persistent constipation should be investigated. The habitual use of laxatives must be avoided as it can lead to dependence and loss of normal bowel function. Use with caution in patients with inflammatory bowel disease. Pregnancy and lactation: Not recommended. Safety of use during pregnancy and lactation has not been established. Side-effects: Mild abdominal discomfort. Use over an extended period of time can cause diarrhoea with loss of electrolytes and a non-functioning colon. Discolouration of urine may occur. Known symptoms of overdosage and particulars of its treatment: Severe diarrhoea and electrolyte disturbances. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. Keep out of reach of children. This medicine has not been evaluated by the Medicines Control Council and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Patient information leaflet: Read all of this leaflet carefully because it contains important information for you: Clicks senna is available without a doctor's prescription, for you to treat a mild illness or condition. Nevertheless you still need to use Clicks senna carefully to get the best results from it. Keep this leaflet. You may need to read it again. Do not share Clicks senna with any other person. Ask your pharmacist if you need more information or advice. You must see a doctor if your symptoms worsen or do not improve after 7 days. Special care should be taken with Clicks senna: If you notice a change in bowel function that persists for more than 2 weeks, consult a healthcare practitioner before using any product (laxative) to assist with difficulty in passing stools (constipation). If your constipation does not improve or no relief is obtained or if rectal bleeding occurs, stop taking Clicks senna and contact a healthcare practitioner as soon as possible. If you have constipation regularly and frequently, the reason should be investigated. Contact a healthcare practitioner as soon as possible. When you have any problems with your intestines, you should be careful about using Clicks senna. Should not be taken for more than one week, unless advised to do so by a healthcare practitioner. Pregnancy and breastfeeding: If you are pregnant or breastfeeding your baby please consult your doctor, pharmacist or other healthcare professional for advice before taking this medicine. Important information about the use of Clicks senna: The use of laxatives on a regular basis must be avoided as it can lead to relying completely on laxatives for bowel movement. Over time it will result in the loss of normal bowel function. Taking or giving other medicines with Clicks senna: Always tell your healthcare professional if you are taking any other medicines including complementary or traditional medicines and which include the following: Products containing potassium. Products promoting the formation of urine but do not promote the secretion of potassium into the urine (potassium sparing diuretics). Products preventing blood from forming clots (anticoagulants). Products to prevent a woman from becoming pregnant (contraceptives). Heart medication containing digital glycosides. Fat-soluble vitamins - vitamins A, D, E and K. Stool-softener laxatives. Products neutralising or counteracting acidity in the stomach (antacids). Products containing the substances cimetidine, famotidine, nizatidine and ranitidine. If you take more Clicks senna than you should: You may experience severe watery stools (diarrhoea) and loss of water and minerals. In the event of overdosage, consult your doctor or pharmacist. If neither is available, seek help at the nearest hospital. If you forget to take Clicks senna: Do not take a double dose to make up for forgotten individual doses. Possible side-effects: Clicks senna can have side-effects. Not all side-effects reported for this medicine are included in this leaflet. You may experience mild stomach discomfort and discolouration of your urine. Should your general health worsen or if you experience any untoward effects while taking this medicine, please consult your doctor, pharmacist or other healthcare professional for advice. If any of the following happens, stop taking Clicks senna immediately and tell your doctor immediately or go to the casualty department at your nearest hospital: watery stools (diarrhoea) with loss of water and minerals and the loss of bowel movement which is often the result of uninterrupted use over a long period of time. If you notice any side-effects not mentioned in this leaflet, please inform your doctor or pharmacist.
