5 Ways to treat cracked heels fast
If you’re feeling anything less than completely confident when you slide into a pair of strappy flats, then it might be time to give your cracked heels a little TLC.
Summer is here and that means one thing: it’s sandal season! A fresh pedi is great, but even the cutest colours can’t distract from sandals’ number one enemy – cracked heels. The cause of this unslightly tragedy? The sandals themselves.
Podiatrists say that the combination of physically unsupported feet and exposure to the elements while wearing open shoes is what leads people to developing dry, cracked heels. If left untreated, this will only worsen over time as you walk or run – not cool.
So to make sure you’re not stuck with cracked, dry skin, we’re sharing some easy tips for treating your heels fast.
Add a cup
A simple heel cup inserted into your shoe can help reduce the pressure on your heels by cushioning them. Choose a gel cup for ultimate comfort. Sadly, these only work for closed shoes – sorry, sandals!
Sock it to me
Believe it or not, the skin on your feet can dry out when it’s exposed to the sun or dust. A gel heel sock is the perfect solution to this. Slip them on along with a moisturiser and leave them for at least 20 minutes to soften your feet.
Choose a dream cream
The best weapon for keeping cracked heels in check is a good-quality, targeted cream or balm. Try to find one that’s at least 25% urea to help rehydrate your feet.
Try a lemon aid
Do this quick DIY treatment regularly to heal your feet: soak your feet in warm water for 15 minutes, and then rinse and pat dry. Mix one teaspoon of Vaseline with a few drops of lemon juice and rub the mixture over your heels. Immediately put on a pair of wool socks and leave them on overnight.
Don’t skip stones
After soaking your feet in warm water, gently scrub your heels with a pumice stone to remove dead skin. Be careful not to push too hard or you could damage the healthy layers of skin. Rinse and moisturise your feet after blotting them dry.
