What you need to know about regrowing hair

Losing your hair can be a stressful experience – especially when you don’t know what to do about it. We chatted to senior hair stylist, Zaidah Regal Adams to find out if it’s really possible to regrow hair and, if so, how to do it. 

There is hope!

“The main reason why hair falls out is because too much tension is put on the hair from braiding and extensions or extensive brushing and styling,” says Zaidah. The best way to ensure that your hair doesn't fall out or break at the roots is to brush it gently and decrease time spent with heat styling tools, she advises. “However, it is often possible to regrow the hair – especially if the follicle is open.” 

Up those vitamins 

“Biotin is an important ingredient that is found in haircare products specific for hair growth”, says Zaidah. “But if you want to increase the hair growth and want your hair to grow back healthy, then you should start taking Biotin in a capsule as well.” She also advises eating foods high in Zinc and Vitamin C to help speed up the process and strengthen your hair. 

Watch what you eat

Increase hair density and decrease hair loss by adding omega-rich food to your plate. “Your diet plays a big part in any hair or skin problem, so be sure to eat foods rich in omega-3 like salmon, avocados, eggs and nuts,” Zaidah says. These foods are great to add to your diet since they increase shine and help promote hair growth. 

Stimulate your scalp

Finally, encourage blood flow and healthy hair growth by stimulating the scalp through a head massage with the correct shampoo. “I always recommend that my clients use black castor oil on their scalp as it’s a great product for hair growth,” Zaidah explains. “You can also use a shampoo specifically formulated for hair growth to help amp up the process.”
