For those who think that makeup and glasses don't mix, think again. The trick to rocking your specs is to make sure that your makeup complements, rather than detracts from, the overall look. To help you ace your eye makeup game, follow these tips, tricks and techniques.

Firm foundation

One of the most common problems is the indents, creases and red marks the nose pads and bridge of the glasses leave behind. An easy fix is to prime and set your foundation with powder so it lasts longer.

Boost your brow shape

Ensure the shape of your eyebrow matches the size and style of your specs. If the frames are thin and delicate, your brows will be emphasised, so opt for a more defined and groomed brow. On the other hand, thinner brows will best suit glasses with bigger and bolder frames.

Conceal and brighten

The glass in your frames can highlight under-eye discolouration as well as add a shadow to your dark circles, so concealer is essential. Apply a light-reflecting formula to the inner corner of the eye area, and gently blend outward with your fingertips. To preserve your concealer, finish off with a dusting of setting powder.

Loaded lashes

Wearing mascara instantly helps open the eyes and is a must for those wearing glasses. But if you are worried that the mascara might smudge and mess up, not only your look but your glasses as well, opt for a waterproof mascara (to avoid smudging) that emphasises volume over length as these formulas help keep lashes full and separated and will enhance eyes without getting in the way of glasses. Curling eyelashes before applying your mascara is also a great idea as this will enhance your lashes even more and make your eyes look more open and wide.

Go bold with liner

Since glasses can obscure your eyes, it's important to bring back some definition by using eyeliner. A good rule of thumb is to match the thickness of your liner to the thickness of your frames. Keep liner more delicate on thin frames and go a little chunkier if your frames are bigger. This will ensure your glasses don’t overpower your eyes. Another trick is to keep dark makeup on top, and use white or nude liner along the lower inner rim to create a contrast that makes your eyes pop.

Match your eye makeup to your frames

When it comes to eyeshadow, the colours you choose will depend on the frame that you wear. A thick frame looks good with softer shades while those with more delicate frames can experiment with bolder hues. And for a look that never fails, is easy to execute and goes with just about any frame is a smudged kohl that’s softly diffused.

Balance with a bold lip

Glasses draw immediate focus to your eye area, so why not balance your makeup, by adding a pop of colour to your face’s lower half? The easiest way to do that? Paint your pout with a highly pigmented bright colour.
